28.09.2004

On September 27, 2004, the Swiss Federal Office for Cultural Affairs (FOC) announced its decision to have “Jagged Harmonies – Bach vs. Frederick II” by Dominique de Rivaz represent Switzerland in the 2005 Oscar nominations. The Swiss-German co-production, executed by Lausanne company CAB Productions, has been registered with the “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences” in Los Angeles, California, for the category of “Best Foreign Film.”
“Jagged Harmonies – Bach vs. Frederick II” is the first feature film by Dominique Rivaz who was born in Zurich in 1953 and now lives in Fribourg. She has produced numerous documentary and short films and served as assistant director with Alain Tanner. The film premiered on the Piazza Grande at the Locarno Film Festival in 2003 and was awarded the 2004 Swiss Film Prize for Best Film.

From among a group of six films, the “Feature film committee” of the Federal Office of Cultural Affairs selected “Jagged Harmonies – Bach vs. Frederick II” because of its “filmic breath, its convincing acting, its universally valid story, and – in general – because of its international potential.”

The 77th edition of the Academy Awards takes place in the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on February 27 2005. Nominations will be announced on January 25, 2005.
