Katrin Renz is Producer on the Move in Cannes

24.04.2018

Katrin Renz, producer at tellfilm, has been selected as Switzerland’s participant in the Producers on the Move programme in Cannes, upon recommendation by SWISS FILMS. This year marks the 19th edition of the European Film Promotion platform which offers 20 up-and-coming European producers the opportunity to present new projects and strengthen international contacts during the festival. Katrin Renz has made an international name for herself with such films as Greg Zgilinski’s TIERE or Lisa Brühlmann’s award-winning BLUE MY MIND.

Katrin Renz has led the production company tellfilm as the managing director since 2014, together with Stefan Jäger. The trained script consultant studied German Literature, Media Science and Anglistics in Marburg and London. She worked as a MEDIA consultant for the European Union Programme and for production companies in Germany and Austria as well as for Master School Drehbuch in Berlin.

Festival acclaim with BLUE MY MIND

Katrin Renz has produced numerous feature and documentary films, as well as documentary series for television. Her production TIERE by Greg Zglinski – a coproduction with Austria and Poland – celebrated its premiere in the International Forum of New Cinema at the Berlinale 2017. Her last film, BLUE MY MIND, Lisa Brühlmann’s feature-film debut, celebrated its world premiere in the New Directors section of the renowned film festival in San Sebastian. Until now the film has been screened at more than ten festivals around the world and has already been sold in a number of countries, including France, USA, Japan and China (World Sales: Be For Films, Brussels). BLUE MY MIND was honoured with, among others, three awards at the Zurich Film Festival 2017 and three Swiss Film Awards 2018 (Best Fiction Film, Best Screenplay, Best Actress). The film won the award for Best Director 2018 at the Max Ophüls Film Festival. Luna Wedler, the film’s leading actress, represented Switzerland at the Berlinale as one of the 10 European Shooting Stars. In Cannes Katrin Renz will present her feature film project THE MASTERTHIEF, the second film with director Lisa Brühlmann.

European Film Promotion’s platform for fostering talent

Every year, European Film Promotion EFP selects 20 promising European producers to participate in its Producers on the Move networking event in Cannes. Participants, who are proposed by the respective EPF member organisations, must have experience in an international coproduction and already had one of their films screened at an A-festival. Over the course of five days, the Producers on the Move have the opportunity to network with international industry leaders and establish contacts for their coproduction projects. Previous Producers on the Move from Switzerland were, among others, Ivan Madeo (2017), Joël Jent (2016), Aline Schmid (2015), Elodie Brunner (2014), Joëlle Bertossa (2013) and Max Karli (2008).
