28.07.2006

At the 63rd Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica, taking place in Venice from August 30 to September 9, 2006, Switzerland will be represented in the festival competition with the minority co-production “La stella che non c’è/The Missing Star” by Gianni AMELIO (Co-production: Carac Film, Berne). In this year’s festival selection, which is dominated by European and American films, no other Swiss production will be participating. The list of short films, which are screened in the Corto Cortissimo section, will be announced during the month of August.
With the transfer of a steel mill from Neapel to China as its backdrop, “La stella che non c’è” is telling the story of a worker who is fired based on the construction defect of a casting ladle. The co-production between Italy, France, Singapore, and Switzerland, with Sergio Castellito and Tai Ling in the leading roles, will be released in movie theatres in the Italian part of Switzerland on September 8th. The film’s release in the German part of Switzerland is planned for 2007 (Distribution: Frenetic Films).
