SWISS FILMS looks forward to setting the course for the future with a new generation of industry experts and to be in a position to support the film industry as it undergoes this transition. This diversification of our services will take place without additional budgetary consequences for the existing departments. The international promotion of Swiss series is newly supported by SRG SSR as a part of a pilot project. To that effect, the Festivals & Markets team has been supplemented with additional expertise.

Fatuma Osman started at SWISS FILMS in April 2023 in a temporary position as project manager for the SWISS FILMS Lab. Since January, she has been working as a consultant for Immersive & Talent Strategy. This encompasses advising Swiss XR/Immersion projects for international promotion, developing new markets in this sector, scouting new Swiss talent and maintaining strategic partnerships with international talent programmes.

Fatuma Osman studied Art History in Zurich and holds a master’s degree in Postcolonial Studies and Global Policy from Goldsmiths University of London. Until 2022, Fatuma Osman worked for four years as a project manager in the cultural section of the Swiss Embassy in London. She complements the team with her experience in the areas of innovation, diversity and new storytelling formats.

Romina Ortega started her position as a consultant for First Features and New Markets at the beginning of March on a 50% temporary basis for two years.

Her responsibilities include consulting rights holders on the international release of first feature films, setting up new networks for audio-visual works and advising on the release of series on the international market.

Romina Ortega studied Audio-visual Communication in Lima and obtained her master’s degree in Film Industry Management. She recently moved to Switzerland from Peru and has extensive knowledge of the Spanish-speaking film industry, including her work as a producer and director and in acquisitions at the international sales agency Latido Films. In 2023, she founded her own production company Amazona Films.

With these newly established job profiles, the two new team members will take over areas of responsibility from Laura Daniel, who was responsible for the Talent & Awards department until the end of 2023. She took up a new position at FOCAL in January.

We would like to thank Laura for her many years of commitment to SWISS FILMS. She was instrumental in setting up the Talent and Award Support measures and has accompanied numerous up-and-coming filmmakers in their first career steps.
