“Riviera Cocktail – Edward Quinn, Photographer, Nice”: Screening in Cannes

15.05.2007

In the 50s and early 60s, no photographer was as intimately connected with the Cannes festival and its stars as Irishman Edward Quinn. Heinz Bütler’s film “Riviera Cocktail – Edward Quinn, Photographer, Nice” which brings Quinn’s world and the time he lived in back to life, is also an homage to the Cannes Film Festival and the Carlton Hotel, where the film will be presented during this year’s 60th Cannes International Film Festival (May 22, 11 am and 4pm).
Throughout the history of the festival, the Carlton has been the stage for important performances, a favorite location for gala dinners, and a backdrop for photographs taken of stars such actors, film producers, and playboys. Quinn (1920 – 1997) knew them all, and they knew him as well: Sophie Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Kirk Douglas, Grace Kelly, Kim Novak, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor… In the suites and during gala nights at the Carlton, a vast amount of photos were taken which tell the story of a glamorous time and its protagonists.
