01.03.2006

At the 13th “Sguardi Altrove” film festival in Milan, an event devoted to the work of women directors, which took place February 21-26, 2006, the Swiss director Ruxandra Zenide won the “Nuovi Sguardi” prize in the international competition for her feature film debut “Ryna”. They jury, which selected the film from among eight productions, included journalist and former director of the Locarno International Film Festival, Irene Bignardi, actress Luisa Morandini, and director Maurizio Nichetti (“Ladri di saponette”). Since its premiere in Montreal, “Ryna” has competed at numerous international festivals and won several prizes in Bordeaux, Geneva, Mannheim, and Annonay.
The jury stated in its decision that “the main character’s personality is full of originality – wonderfully performed by Dorotheea Petre – and adapts efficiently to a social reality and a difficulty family context which limits self expression, but nevertheless shows glimpses of hope for the future through hints of optimism.” After the festival award ceremony, all films presented at “Sguardi Altrove” will be screened in two additional movie theatres in Milan until March 10th. “Ryna” (Production: Pacific Films and Navarro Films, Geneva) will be released in western Swiss movie theatres on April 5th and in the German part of Switzerland in May (Production: Filmcoopi).
