Six Swiss films at Festival in Oberhausen

Six Swiss short films have been invited to the 55th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (April 30-May 5, 2009), with five of the films participating in the various competition sections. The Swiss-French short Film “L’élan” by Alexia Walther and Maxime Matray will participate in the International Competition. The fiction film “bachab” by Ulrich Schaffner will be screened in the Children’s and Youth Film Competition. Michael Koch’s film “Polar” is among the ten films in the NRW Competition, and two Swiss films will be competing for an award in the MuVi section, which is devoted exclusively to video clips. Monetary prizes amounting to a total of 40,000 euros await the award-winners. The film directors Alexia Walther, Maxime Matray, Ulrich Schaffner and Michael Koch will attend the festival in Oberhausen to present their films personally. The film promotion agency SWISS FILMS has supported the Swiss participation in the festival.
While 53 films from 32 countries will be presented in the International Competition, 36 films from 17 countries will be screened in the Children’s and Youth Film Competition. The new film by the Swiss filmmaker Jonas Meier “One Up Down Left Right (Rusconi)” will be presented in the “hors competition”.



Also selected for the MuVi section was “Some of my Best Friends”, the new clip by Luigi Archetti and Bo Wiget. Earlier works by the musician and video-maker duo had already won 2nd Prize in 2007 and 2008. The video clip “Bad Painting” by Corine Stübi (Musik Warren Suicide) is also in the running for an award in this section.
