10.06.2004

The feature film debut “When The Right One Comes Along” by director-duo Oliver Paulus (Switzerland) and Stefan Hillebrand (Germany) has been touring festivals and has received several awards. Most recently, the film received two prizes at the “Golden Knight” International Film Festival in Irkutsk (Siberia/Russia), which took place from May 22-31, 2004: Paulus/Hillebrand were awarded “Best Director”, and lead actress Isolde Fischer received the prize for “Best Actress.” Also recently, the actress was given a “Special Mention” at the Transylvania International Film Festival, which took place in Rumania from May 28 to June 6, 2004.
Isolde Fischer had already been honored with “Best Actress” at the “Schermi d’Amore” Verona Film Festival in April and at the International Film Debut Festival “Spirit of Fire” in Khanti-Maniisk (also Siberia). In January of 2004, the film was awarded the prize of 5,000 dollars for “Best First Feature” at the Berlin & Beyond Festival in San Francisco, California. This German-Swiss co-production has been invited to the official sections of nearly 20 international festivals, among them San Sebastian (New Talent Competition: Honorary Mention), Mannheim-Heidelberg, San Francisco, Montevideo, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Jerusalem, and it will screen on June 11th in Setubal (Portugal). In July of 2004, the adventurous love comedy, naïve yet refined in style, will be released in German movie theatres (Distribution: Kool Filmdistribution), and by the end of August it will be showing in Swiss movie theatres (Distribution: Look Now!).

The movie tells the story of the tall 30-year-old cleaning lady Paula who meets the Turkish security guard Mustafa at her workplace in Germany. She misinterprets his courtesy and falls in love with him. After his sudden disappearance Paula begins her search which leads all the way to Turkey. The comedy’s situations and dialogues cross the border between fiction and reality with a documentary-like quality.
