The apocalyptic thriller “Hell” by Swiss director Tim Fehlbaum, a German-Swiss coproduction, attained ticket sales of 52,000 on its opening weekend in Germany. The film celebrated its premiere on the Piazza Grande in Locarno in August and went on to win the Audience Prize at the 25th Fantasy Filmfest on September 13. The film was screened in seven major German cities – Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Munich – in August and September, with Tim Fehlbaum in attendance.

The film, coproduced by Vega Film (Zurich) and distributed by Paramount Pictures Germany, has appeared on 216 screens since its release on September 22. Tim Fehlbaum, 29-year-old director from Basel, shot "Hell" as his graduation film at the Film and Television University (HFF) in Munich. He was supported by screenwriter and producer Roland Emmerich, who came to fame with his disaster films "The Day After Tomorrow" or "2012."

In the film "Hell" Fehlbaum creates the horrific image of a world in which torrid heat and glaring light renders life impossible. Two women and a man struggle to survive in this world following the apocalypse. In its critique on September 20, the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" praised the film as "a cinematically and theatrically high-quality work - not just for horror fans." The film features internationally famous actors starring in its leading roles: Hanna Herzsprung, Stipe Erceg and Angela Winkler. "Hell" can be seen in Swiss cinemas as of October 20 (distributor: Vega Distribution).
