Swiss Nominations for 2007 German Film Prize Awards

For their accomplishments, Swiss director Alain Gsponer and actor Roeland Wiesnekker have been nominated for the 2007 German Film Prize.
Born in 1976 in Zurich, director Alain Gsponer is one of three nominees for “Best Director”. His film “Rose” is also in the running for an award in the “Best Television Film” category. With Volker Bruch included in the “Best Supporting Actor” section, Gsponer’s “Rose” accounts for a total of three nominations. Only one other production has more nominations, Kai Wessel’s “Die Flucht”, with a total of four.



After studying at the Berne School of Design and at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy, Alain Gsponer was the co-owner of the “Freier Film” movie theatre in Aarau. In addition, he worked as a broadcast journalist and produced several short films. In 2002, he completed his Film Academy degree with the 55-minute film “Kiki & Tiger”, which has since won several awards. For “Rose”, Gsponer received the 2005 Eastman Award for Upcoming Talent.



Roeland Wiesnekker was born in Zurich in 1967. He has been nominated for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in “Blackout – Die Erinnerung ist tödlich”. After his training at the Drama School Zurich, he began his acting career at the Bochum Schauspielhaus. In the same year, he was named “Best New Talent of the Year” by “Theater heute”. Since, Roeland Wiesnekker has performed on several stages and in various film and television productions, such as “Schwabenkinder”, “Dilemmaz”, and “Eden”. For his role in the feature film “Straehl”, Wiesnekker received the 2005 Swiss Film Prize for “Best Actor”. For his performance in “Blackout…”, Roeland Wiesnekker has already been bestowed with the German Television Mystery prize.



The award ceremony will take place in the Coloneum in Cologne on September 29, 2007. Since 1999, the German broadcasting stations ARD, RTL, Sat1, and ZDF, have awarded the German Television Prize for exceptional accomplishments in television.
