Swiss short documentary film wins award in St. Petersburg

Fiorella Castanotto’s short documentary film "Salt in the Scars" received an Honourable Mention from the jury of the 5th International Short and Animation Film Festival OPEN CINEMA in St. Petersburg (August 7 - 15 2009) "for the beauty and integrity of its images."

The 17-minute documentary film, which portrays the mining of sea salt in South India and how the industry exploits the local inhabitants, was screened in the International Non-Fiction Competition. The Russia film festival is devoted to the short film genre in all its facets. Last year the Swiss-Russian animation film "Lullaby" by Andrej Zolotuchin also won an Honourable Mention from the jury, and the documentary film "La mere" by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov was honoured with the award for Best Non-Fiction Film.
