A number of Swiss film productions and coproductions will be screened at the 18th Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival (July 3-11, 2010). The festival in the coastal town in north of Portugal is devoted entirely to the short film genre. The German-Swiss coproduction “Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46” by Anthony Vouardoux will be screened in international competition, and the film “À côté” by Basil Da Cunha will be presented in the competition for Portuguese productions. The film was produced in conjunction with his studies at the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD).

"Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" is a science-fiction film by Berlin-based Anthony Vouardoux, from Valais, comprised of a single 13-minute shot. The film was screened at the Hamburg Short Film Festival in June. Anthony Vouardoux will attend the festival on the Atlantic coast to present his film personally in Vila do Conde.

The film "À côté" by Portuguese-Swiss dual citizen Basil Da Cunha celebrated its premiere last year at the film festival in Locarno. The film was also nominated for the Quartz Swiss Film Prize 2010 for Best Short Film.

The animation film "Frère Benoît et les grandes orgues" by Michel Dufourd and the Swiss coproduction "Allons-y! Alonzo!" by French director Camille Moulin-Dupré round off the Swiss presence in Vila do Conde. The festival ranks among the most important short film festivals in Portugal and is one of the15 partner festivals of the European Film Award. Winners at the partner festivals are automatically nominated in the category of Best Short Film.
