The film “Rachel”, by filmmaker Frédéric Mermoud from Valais, is among the five films nominated for a César Award 2008 in the category of “Best Short Film”. This French-Swiss co-production was in the running with 11 other films submitted for a nomination. The awards ceremony of the coveted César will take place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on February 22, 2008 and broadcast live on the French television station CANAL+.
The short film recounts a particular evening for Rachel, hired by a 40-year-old manager to work on weekends as a babysitter for his 3-year-old son. Since its premiere in August 2006 on the Piazza Grande in Locarno, the film has been presented at over 20 international festivals, honoured with 3 prizes (in Amiens – Prix Femis; in Almeria – Best Screenplay, among others). “Rachel” was also nominated for the Swiss Film Prize 2007.
