Rosemonde, la Salamandre, est une jeune fille qui survit en passant d'un petit boulot non qualifié à un autre. On la soupçonne d'avoir tenté de tuer son oncle, chez qui elle vit. Un journaliste et un écrivain sont chargés d'écrire un scénario de téléfilm sur ce fait-divers. Ils n'y parviendront jamais car la vérité de Rosemonde et son goût de vivre échappent aux investigations des deux garçons.
