Le film nous mène jusqu’à New York chez Dan Kaufman, un collectionneur enthousiaste de langues dans la jungle urbaine, et il accompagne Giancarlo Malchiodi de Brooklyn à l’Oberland grison à la recherche de la langue maternelle qu’il a perdue. D’après l’Unesco, la moitié des 6500 langues qui existent actuellement auront disparu à la fin du XXIe siècle. Avec chaque langue disparaît également un point de vue unique sur le monde.
