Young cameraman from Switzerland wins award in Germany
The Swiss cameraman and film director Jan Mettler was honoured with the Advancement Award in conjunction with the “Deutscher Kamerapreis 2012” in Cologne for his cinematography in the short film “Eddy” on June 16. Three fiction and documentary films coproduced in Switzerland received nominations for their cinematography.
Cameraman and film director Jan Mettler received the Advancement Award of the “Deutscher Kamerapreises 2012” in Cologne for his cinematography in the short film “Eddy” on June 16. This award is presented by the “Film- und Medienstiftung NRW” and endowed with EUR 5,000. A total of 460 works were submitted and rated by juries in six categories. The film “Eddy” by Mats Frey was produced as his graduation film at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2011.
Studies in Zurich and Ludwigsburg
Twenty-eight-year-old Jan Mettler, from Winterthur, completed his studies at the ZHdK in 2010 with his graduation film “Ronaldo” (SUISSIMAGE/SSA Upcoming Talent Award 2011 in Solothurn). He is currently studying Cinematography at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg.
Three Swiss coproductions nominated for the Camera Award
The “Deutscher Kamerapreis” (German Camera Award) been awarded in six categories since 2002: fiction film for the cinema, television film/documentary drama, television series, short film, news story/reportage, documentary film/ documentation as well as two advancement awards to upcoming talents, endowed with EUR 5,000. The nominees included cameramen in three Swiss coproductions: Markus Förderer was the cinematographer for the film “Hell” by Tim Fehlbaum; Fred Kelemen for the film “The Turin Horse” by Bela Tarr, coproduced by Vega Film (Zurich); as well as Markus Winterbauer and Börres Weiffenbach for the documentary film “Raising Resistance,” coproduced by maximage (Zurich).
