  SWISS FILMS at a glance

   

The SWISS FILMS Foundation is the promotion agency for Swiss filmmaking. It was initiated by the film industry. The foundation develops activities and provides services aimed at facilitating the distribution and publicity of Swiss film productions in Switzerland and abroad.

 Communication and promotion of Swiss filmmaking abroad

 

SWISS FILMS promotes the distribution of Swiss films abroad, thereby increasing the international screening of films made in Switzerland.

 

Activities

 

  • Promotion of participation at festivals by means of documentation, contacts, invitations to festival delegates
  • Information stands and presence at international film festivals
  • Organisation of retrospectives and thematic film programs in collaboration with festivals, local cinemas and other event organisers
  • Consultation for directors and producers regarding festivals and copyright sales
  • Presence at film and television markets
  • Production of promotional material (e.g. trailers, flyers)
  • International Network of Swiss Filmmaking

Retrospectives and film programs refer to projects.

 Promotion and support of Swiss filmmaking in Switzerland

 

SWISS FILMS fosters the image of Swiss filmmaking in Switzerland and supports its distribution.

 

Activities

  • Organisation of film programs and premieres in collaboration with various partners. Guidelines (in german)
  • Promotion of the Swiss Film Prize
  • Consultation for young filmmakers and collaboration with film schools (HGKZ, HGKL, ESBA and ECAL)
  • Fostering of the receptivity of the media in relation to Swiss filmmaking
  • Information, contact and coordination office for Swiss films produced for the cinema
  • Fostering of the exchange of information within the film industry
  • Fostering of intercultural dialogue

SWISS FILMS has organized the Short Film Night together with cinemas in Switzerland and other partners since 2003.

 

SWISS FILMS is, among others, a partner of the mobile cinema Roadmovie.

 

SWISS FILMS is responsible for the administration of the sponsoring association and publication of the Ciné-Bulletin (in two languages), providing information about the film industry, current Swiss film productions and cinemas in Switzerland on a monthly basis:

The SWISS FILMS catalogue presents a selection of new SWISS FILMS produced for the cinema and television which are intended for international screening at festivals, in the cinema and on television. An edition of 8,000 copies in two volumes «Fiction & Documentary» and «swiss shorts» is published annually, introducing approximately 110 new films of all genres and formats which have either already been produced or are still in production.

The Website provides information about new films, events, festivals and prizes.

 

 Central database for Swiss films

 

SWISS FILMS compiles essential data on new SWISS FILMS and makes it available to other institutes and the public. Data on 2976 films can be accessed with the search engine.

 Reserve of prints

 

SWISS FILMS acquires prints of new films for festivals and film programs and maintains a reserve of prints, which is instrumental in promoting the presence of Swiss filmmaking abroad.

 

SWISS FILMS has acquired prints of about 5000 swiss films (from 1923 until present) which are available in different languages (with subtitles) for monographs or thematic programs. The film prints are preserved and managed by Cinémathèque Suisse.

 

SWISS FILMS maintains video libraries at its Zurich and Geneva locations, as well as at the Pro Helvetia culture center in Paris*, where films on DVD can be viewed for research and professional purposes.
