Born in 1941 in Winterthur, Switzerland. Studied Art History, History and German studies in Zurich. Studied film at the Kunstgewerbeschule Zurich. Taught at film schools in Berlin, Milan and Zurich as guest lecturer. Since 1969 works as independent filmmaker. 1981 Academy Award Nomination “Best Foreign Language Film” for “Das Boot ist Voll”. 2013 Swiss Film Award “Best Documentary Film” for “More Than Honey”. 2020 Honorary Award of the Swiss Film Award. Lives in Berlin.
