Scientist and environmentalist Bruno Manser left Switzerland in 1984 in order to realize his dreams in the remote rain forests of Borneo. He lived with the indigenous people of Penan, a place caught between magic and reality, not dictated to by the constrictions of time. The film dips into this remote world and creates a rounded portrait of the introspective natural scientist, normally one-dimensionally portrayed in the media as an angry environmentalist. It also tells of the Penan people’s tragic fight for survival as they are forced to yield to the all powerful timber industry.
