Simon Jaquemet’s “Chrieg” was honoured with two awards at the Marrakech International Film Festival on Saturday: the Jury Award as well as the award for Best Actor, which went to Benjamin Lutzke, who performed in the film’s leading role. The jury in Marrakech was presided over by Isabelle Huppert.

Simon Jaquemet worked predominately with amateur actors in his impressive debut film. Benjamin Lutzke, for instance, was discovered at the meeting point in the main railway station in Zurich. Lutzke was the first person Jaquemet spoke to in numerous street castings and ultimately selected after a lengthy casting process with over 1000 applicants. In “Chrieg” he plays the part of the vulnerable and rebellious teenager Matteo, who is sent to a juvenile reform camp in the Swiss Alps by his father.

The successful drama about violence and excesses among juveniles was produced by Hugofilm in Zurich. It celebrated its world in the New Directors Competition in San Sebastian on September 21, 2014. Thereafter, it was screened in the International Competition at the Zurich Film Festival and in the New Directors Competition at the Sao Paulo Film Festival, among others.

“Chrieg” was selected to participate in the prestigious Script&Pitch development course offered by TorinoFilmLab and won the Development Award. In addition, the project was invited to participate in the TorinoFilmLab’s support programme called FrameWork and took part in the Ateliers Premiers Plans as well as at the Berlinale Talent Project Market.

“Chrieg,” distributed by First Hand Films, will be released in cinemas in the German part of Switzerland on February 5.
