“ThuleTuvalu” nominated for German Documentary Film Award

The German Documentary Film Award ranks among the most highly endowed award for documentary films in Germany. Every two years it honours “particularly outstanding achievements in fostering and further developing classic documentary films for television and cinema.” A seven-member jury of professionals, including Swiss filmmaker Christian Frei, has nominated a total of twelve documentary films, with “ThuleTuvalu” as the only Swiss film production.

“ThuleTuvalu” impressively portrays how the inhabitants of Thule, Greenland, and of the remote Pacific island of Tuvalu are forced to abandon their traditional way of life due to climate change and move towards an unknown future. The film was screened at numerous festivals around the world, including the renowned CPH:DOX Documentary Film Festival in Copenhagen, DOK.fest in Munich and Hot Docs in Toronto. At the Visions du Réel Film Festival in Nyon in 2014, “ThuleTuvalu” was honoured with the award for Best Swiss Film. The film will be released in German cinemas on August 13 (distribution: Barnsteiner Film).

Switzerland is the focus of the 11^th edition of Dokville 2015, the documentary film industry event held this year on June 19. Swiss filmmakers Samir and Christian Frei, together with Corinna Marschall, director of MEDIA Desk Suisse, will provide insight into Switzerland’s formula for success in documentary filmmaking at the two following events: Dokumentarfilmland Schweiz – eine Erfolgsgeschichte and Dokumentarfilme – Der Trumpf des Schweizer Kinos.
