As part of the activities taking place to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Switzerland, the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE) and the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (FOC) signed a letter of intent on cinematographic coproductions between the two countries.

The document was signed by Jorge Sánchez Sosa, Director General of IMCINE, and Louis-José Touron, Swiss Ambassador to Mexico, within the scope of the 31st Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) on 4 March at the Museum of Art MUSA. Switzerland is guest of honour at the festival and is extensively showcased in Guadalajara in an exclusive programme together with a delegation of renowned Swiss filmmakers.

The letter of intent is in the interest of both institutions as it will help to strengthen cooperation in the film sector. In this letter, the parties pronounce to continue negotiations in order to establish an agreement on coproduction which will be signed in 2017. The objective is to increase the number of coproductions and facilitate access to Swiss and Mexican films, thus contributing to increase mutual relations in the field of arts and culture between the two countries.
