Following an extensive presentation of Swiss cinema in Mexico in March, Switzerland is now featured as the guest of honour at Eurocine, the festival for European film in Columbia (April 6 - May 11, 2016). In addition, the festival will showcase works by the film director Lionel Baier.

The festival in Bogotá opens with Baier’s film “La vanité” (2015) accompanied by the actress Carmen Maura, who stars in the leading role. Lionel Baier travels shortly thereafter to Columbia to present his films personally, including “Les grandes ondes (à l’ouest)” (2013), “Un autre homme” (2008), and “Comme des voleurs – (À l’est)” (2006). On April 9 he will participate in a public discussion about his works with the TV journalist Santiago Rivas, attended by film students and industry representatives.

Current productions from Switzerland will also be screened in various festival sections, among others, Nicolas Steiner’s “Above And Below”, which was recently honoured with the Swiss Film Award for Best Documentary Film, and the winner of the Max-Ophüls Prize “Chrieg” by Simon Jaquemet.

Eurocine will also be held in the cities of Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla and Pereira. The focus on Switzerland has been organised by the festival in partnership with SWISS FILMS and the Swiss Embassy in Columbia. Following Mexico and Columbia, a Swiss programme will also be presented in Brazil next year. As a result, the promotion agency aims to intensify the dissemination of Swiss film productions in Latin America.
