The film is part documentary, part fiction, and deals with the life and work of the painter Hans Ardüser (1557-1618?), from the canton of Grisons. The German dialogue is based on the artist’s diaries. There is also a commentary, similar to an ancient Greek chorus, spoken by women in the local Romansch dialect.
