A Yugoslav woman and her children travel to Italy for a brief reunion with her husband, who must journey from Montenegro to join them. He has earlier been expelled from Switzerland, with a lifelong ban on reentry, having been pronounced “a threat to the public security and order” of that nation. This is the story of one family, in a Europe that seems not to have enough room for its members to live together. An ancient tale of sin and atonement, self-respect and revenge, love and responsibility, community and legality, as the destiny of a family weighed down by prejudice is forced by the dictates of the law into absurd twists and turns.
