Guatemala, December 21, 2012. The Mayas are celebrating as has not been seen for a very long time. Indeed, after 5200 years, this day marks the end of a cycle on the legendary Mayan calendar. In a remote village we take part in the magical rituals commemorating the beginning of a new era – and ask questions about our future – about our children. Three chiquitos – Jenni, Amil and Rebecca – guide us through their world in which the small is of vital importance, and some things proceed at a slower pace. “Chiquitos” is a tribute to people of all cultures who still find their meaning of life beyond the bounds of progress and prosperity to this day.
