The Rathausen children’s home in Lucerne was one of the largest institutions of its kind in Switzerland. Run by Catholic personnel, the illegitimate, impoverished or orphaned children were raised according to the motto: work, prayer, and beatings. They were often put into dark cells and subjected to massive sexual assaults. But the worst of all was the complete absence of love. After decades of shame and silence, the former inmates speak about their suffering in Rathausen for the first time.
