In a near fatal fight with a bear, Russian forester Yevgeny Severin lost his face. Totally unrecognisable but nonetheless alive, he stayed in hiding in the wilderness of the Taiga for four years. A combination of circumstances eventually brought him to the university clinics of Berne and Zurich in Switzerland where he spent a year in the hands of plastic surgeons, whose powers today verge on the miraculous. Little by little, the Russian forester acquired a whole new face. The film looks at the physical and spiritual healing process necessary for Yevgeny’s recovery, and his return home.
