When parents and students discuss the situation in Swiss schools today, the subject often brings powerful emotions to the surface. Everyone thinks they have the answers to the various problems, particularly the problem of classes that have a high percentage of children from foreign language backgrounds. The Swiss People's Party (SVP) plans to call a referendum, in the hopes of separating the Swiss children from immigrant and refugee children. The reality in Switzerland's multicultural schools is quite different however from what the clichés would have people believe. Not infrequently the foreigners perform brilliantly, even qualifying for the upper stream (Gymnasium). The film introduces us to one particular class, at Zurich's Nordstrasse school, serving up a slice of inner-city life that is full of contrasts.
