Simon Granderath is found dead in his home. Monika Bess, his only daughter who lives in Luxembourg comes to make arrangements for the burial and see to the estate. She would like to return as quickly as possible to Luxembourg and her normal life. She soon realises however that she knew very little about her father, and tries to imagine what his life must have been like, with its various twists and turns.
