Eduardo Spelterini, who grew up in rural Toggenburg, became a celebrated aviation pioneer through his tenacity and heroism. At the end of the 19th century, a time when everything seemed possible, he was the first to cross the Alps in his balloon and photographically capture the world from above. His flight seems boundless until it comes to an abrupt end with the outbreak of the First World War.
