November 2009. Sit-ins were occurring at over 50 universities throughout all of Europe, protesting against the Bologna model, the increase in tuition fees and the economisation of education. On November 17, some 500 students occupied the largest auditorium at the University of Zurich. This sit-in attracted a great deal of attention in the media and was somewhat reminiscent of the student protests in 1968. Two weeks later, the students moved from the auditorium and into a pavilion near the university. In this autonomous space, they lived their utopia of a direct-democratic movement, organised demonstrations and formulated their demands.
