Although Hans Steiner was one of Switzerland’s leading photographers from the 1930s to the 1960s, today he is all but forgotten. He left behind an archive with some 100,000 photographs, which serves as both an encyclopaedia and existential manifest. Using 500 photographs as its point of departure, the film combines biographical and narrative elements with events from the photographer's life.
