Shot over a four-year period, this film deals with the day-by-day struggle of ethnic and religious minorities in Burma. The film begins like a picturesque travelogue in the golden land of a thousand pagodas. In this tourist circuit, it's pointless to try finding people to shed some light on human rights. To find out more, you have to cross the border into Thailand, where 150,000 refugees officially live. In these camps, people speak up. The filmmakers met with the freedom fighters and Burmese rebels united against the junta in power. Thanks to them, the filmmakers slip clandestinely back into Burma, in regions where no western camera has filmed before. Hundreds of thousands of civilians who fled their homeland in order to escape the junta's policy of terror now find themselves living in exile in the Burmese jungle. They talk about the genocide of ethnic and religious minorities, far from the tourist circuits of Burma.
