This road movie follows Fribourg-born artist André Sugnaux on his journey to visit the remnants of Kolyma’s gulags, 10'000 kilometers east of Moscow. With Lena, his young interpreter from Saint-Petersburg, they follow the Trail, a 2000 kilometer road built by the forced labourers of the camps and that leads to the goldmines. They meet former convicts, prison guards and people who are simply trying to keep the memories of the region alive. This journey also bring us face-to-face with today’s Russia: the State that relentlessly exploits these mines, but is disinvested from the rest of society.
