Marguerite, Claire and Jacques are all seated in the same carriage on the Paris underground, the Metro. Marguerite is an adolescent with her head in the clouds who feels different from other children her age, has difficulty communicating with them, and is slowly isolating herself from the world around her. Claire is a woman in her 40s who is having marital problems. She is spending the day in Paris, where she happens to run into an American singer and celebrity she has always adored. She at first resists his advances, but then forgets herself and lets her emotions take over. Jacques, aged about 35, has lost both his job and his wife. Through a series of coincidences Jacques finds himself having to play detective.
