“He is absolutely impossible, unbearable, intolerable... and brilliant!” That is how musicologist Harry Halbreich sums up in a few words his composer friend Horatiu Radulescu. A naturalised French citizen of Romanian origin but living in Switzerland since 1998, Horatiu Radulescu has since 1969 been considered the father of spectral music. A prolific composer, with a catalogue of more than 100 works performed all over the world, inventor of the “sound icon”, an instrument that is intended to be “the opposite of the violon”, Horatiu Radulescu declares readily that the composer Stockhausen was influenced by his own diploma work.
