“Le Poison” tells of a heinous crime that shattered the French-speaking communities of Switzerland in June 1949, and that remains unsolved until today. Two teenage girls were murdered in the small town of Maracon, for no apparent motive. At the time, the people of Maracon and its neighbouring village Samsales worked themselves into a frenzy of rumour spreading, desperately looking for a scapegoat. This superbly structured documentary delivers a suspenseful account of a time that haunts its inhabitants until today. Through interviews with the main people involved, a vivid picture emerges of how lies and defamation poisoned a whole community, and ruined individuals' lives.
