Thirty or so homeless people become actors for the space of a few months to interpret the roles of people like themselves in the play “The Lower Depths”, by Maxim Gorky. The story, which is a painful blend of misery, injustice and charity enacted in a world of mud, reflects a deep love of mankind. From the mean streets of reality to this triumph on the stage of Théâtre National de Chaillot, the film shows the most poignant moments of a metamorphosis… of brief duration?
