Lubo, a street artist of Yenish descent is drafted into the Swiss army in 1939 to protect the borders from the threat of a German invasion. Shortly thereafter, he learns that his wife has died trying to stop the gendarmes from taking away their three young children. They were taken from their family as part of the national “re-education” programme for Yenish children. Lubo will not rest until he has recovered his children and obtained justice for all those who share the same fate.

Lubo è un nomade, un artista di strada che nel 1939 viene chiamato nell’esercito elvetico a difendere i confini nazionali dal rischio di un’invasione tedesca. Poco tempo dopo scopre che sua moglie è morta nel tentativo di impedire ai gendarmi di prendere i loro tre figli piccoli, strappati alla famiglia in quanto Jenisch, come da programma di rieducazione nazionale per i bambini di strada (Hilfswerk fur Kinder der Landstrasse). Lubo sa che non avrà più pace fino a quando non avrà ritrovato i suoi figli e ottenuto giustizia per la sua storia e per quella di tutti i diversi come lui.
