NEUES DEUTSCHLAND is emblazoned in large letters on the drab concrete tower building behind the Ostbahnhof, the former headquarters of the DDR official State newspaper. A unique biotope has developed inside: a few die-hard DDR citizens are holding the fort, an island of the faithful in the middle of the enemy camp. But young artists have long ago discovered for themselves the appeal of the run-down rooms with original East German flair.
