An encounter with Jean-Bastien, a 21-year-old who is unemployed and disgusted with life. The film shows how this young man, when removed from his normal environment for a period of 10 days, tries to explain his confused feelings and the difficulty he has in accepting the rules of society. Despite some delicate “stage management”, the cracks in his story are nonetheless apparent.
