These days we often hear the expression that the world has become a global village. If this is so, shouldn't we be committed to discovering and showing how every village, every city, is a world and how in every part of the world, the whole world is present, the richness of humanity in all its complexities? The warrior philosophers are those who are able to speak to the world on behalf of the world. Warrior philosophers are they who, starting from their own painful experiences and economic struggles, resist, which means that through the mediums of dance, music and rap, they are able to produce philosophy, memory and teachings, messages that benefit the whole of humanity. Here in Yeumbeul, on the outskirts of Dakar, vandals rappers, hooligans and migrants have abandoned a destiny, which is imposed upon youth by instability, to become (or became again) warriors. Warriors of a philosophy which stands for “the art of inventing one's own circumstances, expression and thought”, within the bosom of a society that the fenced in suburbs, beyond the boundaries of barricaded frontiers, attempt to change in this city, this planetary village that the world has become.

Oggi sentiamo spesso dire che il mondo ormai è un villaggio. Se questo è vero, non dovremmo allora oggi impegnarci a scoprire e a mostrare in cosa ogni villaggio, ogni città è un mondo, e come in ogni parte del mondo si trova il mondo intero, la ricchezza umana in tutta la sua complessità? I filosofi guerrieri sono quelli capaci di parlare al mondo. I filosofi guerrieri sono quelli che, partendo dalla propria esperienza, dal dolore e da una precarietà materiale quasi assoluta resistono, cioè producono per mezzo della musica, della danza, del Rap, della filosofia e della memoria, degli insegnamenti, dei messaggi di cui l'umanità intera potrà trarre profitto. Qui, a Yeumbeul, periferia di Dakar, teppisti, rappers, attaccabrighe, immigrati hanno lasciato il destino che la precarietà tenta di imporre alla gioventù. Sono diventati (o ridiventati) guerrieri, guerrieri di una filosofia concepita come «arte di inventare le proprie condizioni di esistenza, di espressione e di pensiero», in un mondo che le forze delle periferie imprigionate, oltre le frontiere rinforzate, tentano di cambiare in questa città, in questo villaggio planetario che si ritiene sia diventato il mondo.
