In his book “Un pèlerin d'Angkor” (1901), Pierre Loti describes his journey from Saigon (Vietnam) to Siem Reap (Cambodia). He follows the course of the Mekong, navigates the Tonle Sap and ultimately discovers Angkor, thereby fulfilling his childhood dream. The film transposes the writer’s educational journey to present-day Asia. Like an impressionistic poem, this “logbook” tells of a real or imaginary journey. Augmented with brief anecdotes, encounters and contemplative moments evoked by nature and the fauna, it transforms the spirit in “search of a trace of serenity.”
