The story of a group of survivors of the 1994 genocide who have taken part in the play “Rwanda 94”. This show has been touring the world for the past year. Each of the interpreters has his own personal story to tell. They all have agreed to re-enact the scenes and relive the terrible events which have brought them together. Some were in exile and suffered the loss of dear ones. Others miraculously escaped the genocide, which they have personally experienced in all its horror. Apart from the need to mourn, there is the need to preserve the memory of these events – a tremendous task for the people who have chosen to go on living in the small African country in spite of numerous hardships.
Il documentario narra di alcuni africani ruandesi, sopravvissuti al genocidio del 1994, che partecipano alla rappresentazione teatrale «Rwanda 94» (da un anno questo spettacolo sta facendo il giro del mondo).Gli interpreti, ognuno con la sua storia personale, accettano di calcare le scene e rivivere nella memoria la terribile esperienza che li accomuna. C`è chi era in esilio e ha vissuto a distanza il dolore per la perdita dei propri cari e ci sono quelli che, pur sfuggendo miracolosamente allo sterminio, hanno visto l’orrore da vicino. Accanto alla necessità di elaborare il lutto, c’è il bisogno di conservare la memoria, nonostante le innumerevoli difficoltà quotidiane che assillano chi ha deciso di continuare a vivere nel piccolo paese dell’Africa nera.
