The film follows the traces of a family and uncovers the entanglements of two dictatorships layer by layer. The starting point is the filmmaker's conversations with her grandfather, who ultimately overcomes his silence for fear of losing his memory. A journey through different time periods and the illumination of several epochs of German history – National Socialism, the GDR and the post-reunification era. How did we become who we are today? A film about remembering, forgetting and personal responsibility in a dictatorship.
