Warda Bleser-Bircher, geologist, palaeontologist, botanist and artist. Strong, inquisitive, open to the world, Warda began studying botany and then geology at the University of Zurich in 1927. Born in 1905 in Cairo and raised there, she and her father bonded in their great love for botany. Her work in what was once Persia and then in Ankara – as a woman travelling alone in foreign lands – made her a pioneer. Travelling by ship, donkey and bus, both arduous and perilous – Warda knew no fear. A fine woman who began, at the age of 100, using the computer to write letters.
