Bruno Moll's film tells the story of the world renowned dramatist's ambivalent relationship with Switzerland. Between the years of 1923 and 1956, Switzerland became a place of refuge for the German writer and playwright and the setting for many of his plays' premieres. Admired and welcomed by some circles and feared by others, Brecht was suspected of being a Communist agent and was spied on by State security. The recent discovery of further plays and writings in Switzerland inspired the filmmaker to explore Brecht's relationship with Switzerland and how the country may have influenced his work and life.
