Swiss film productions portraying the Brazilian singer Nana Caymmi, the American bassist Charlie Haden and the Swiss video artist Pipilotti Rist, as well as a short film on Giovanni Segantini’s work, at the 29th International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) in Montreal (March 17-27, 2011). Film director Georges Gachot will present his film portrait of Nana Caymmi personally in Montreal, which is in the running for the Grand Prize together with 37 films.

"Rio Sonata" places Nana Caymmi in the spotlight as the leading figure in Brazilian music history for the past fifty years. The film was celebrated at the two major film festivals in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo last autumn, with Brazil's "singer among singers" and Swiss director Georges Gachot attending the festivals. Reto Caduff's film "Charlie Haden" has already received a great deal of international attention - from Buenos Aires to Seoul, and from Hof to Washington. The film outlines the 60-year career and myriad facets of the talented musician from the American Midwest. In Michael Hegglin's film "The Colour of Your Socks," Pipilotti Rist provides insight into her creative process, the development of her projects and collaboration with her team. In the 24-minute film "Segantiniana," Ticinese director Adriano Kestenholz depicts the themes of "the punishment of lust" and "the bad mother" in the work of the great artist Giovanni Segantini.

The International Festival of Films on Art is one of the world's largest festivals for films on art. This year some 700 films were submitted to the festival, of which 290 works from thirty countries will be presented. A total of 27 art forms are portrayed in the film productions, ranging from architecture to theatre and dance, art history, painting, music and photography.
