30.10.2008

The documentary film “Togo” by Pierre Morath and Nicholas Peart was awarded the Human Rights League Award at the 5th Festival des Libertés in Brussels (October 16-26, 2008). There were 38 films from all over the world in the competition, which is devoted to films dealing with the defence of human rights and liberties.
The starting point of the film, produced by Tarantula Suisse in Geneva, is October 8, 2005, the day on which Togo qualified for the final rounds of the World Cup in 2006 for the first time in history. This victory was a miracle for the Togolese people. However, behind the euphoria, enthusiasm and hopes of an entire nation, everyday life in Togo is a brutal reality. The film is set front and backstage during the World Cup in 2006 and reveals the wounds of a country subject to ist political system’s overriding blunders and errors.
